Mindfullness and sustainability

For more than 50 years, we have witnessed first-hand the development of tourism on the island of La Gomera, including its impact on society and the environment. There is a precarious ecological balance on the island and in the Garajonay National Park that must be maintained. We are working to make La Gomera and the world a better place than we are now.

We are part of the European Charter of Sustainable Tourism

We have been working in cultural and rural tourism since 1970, offering in our holiday homes the services of a hotel with an excellent quality-price ratio. In 2011 this commitment was translated into the adhesion of our accommodation and our Ethnographic Park to the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism. Together with 20 other companies from La Gomera, we collaborate with the National Park and the Europarc Network to promote tourism that respects the exceptional ecosystem that is La Gomera and the Garajonay National Park. The ECST (European Charter for Sustainable Tourism) was also the social engine for the achievement of the Biosphere Reserve of La Gomera. Since 2021 we have also been working with the initiative ‘Plántate La Gomera’, for the recovery of the thermophilic forest ecosystem on the margins of the Garajonay National Park.

How we do it in Grupo Los Telares

Sustainability is not just about caring for the environment. It is also about caring for our society, our values and principles. It is a commitment to a development that means an improvement for everyone.

We only buy energy-saving light bulbs and appliances. We make our staff and guests aware of responsible consumption.

We use 100% recycled paper in all our media (even toilet paper). Even so, we only print what is absolutely necessary.

We reduce packaging. We offer soaps and gels in dispensers. Our breakfast offers bulk products in packaging that we reuse. We offer only paper bags in our shop.

In our museum we show the values of the rural landscape of La Gomera.

We are committed to the eradication of invasive plants and species.

In our restaurant we make the most of our cuisine, minimising food waste.

We only use environmentally friendly cleaning products and water-based paints and varnishes.

Our fruit and vegetable farm is certified and 100% organic.

Our suppliers are local. We recommend ‘smoke-free’ and sustainable routes.

We strive to fix and attract people to the municipality by offering jobs and training.

We love Quality

If in the 70s Los Telares was born as a pioneer in rural tourism in La Gomera, in 2010 it reinvented itself as a company where quality and professionalism have been the key to growth. Improvements that have allowed us to keep the constant pulse of our commitment to quality so that our guests feel pampered.

In 1988 we received the International Tourism Award. In 2013 we were awarded the Prize for Business Excellence by the Canary Islands Ministry of Tourism, an award that recognises our commitment to quality and constant improvement. The award for excellence is also given to us by our guests, who rate us in the Top 5 accommodations in La Gomera on Tripadvisor.

We are part of the Association of Entrepreneurs of the North of La Gomera (AEN).

The association of Entrepreneurs of the North, founded in 2013, aims to defend the interests of its entrepreneurs, creating a unified identity that improves the visibility of the North of La Gomera and its businesses. Its statutes also include the need to promote the improvement and conservation of the natural environment and landscape of the area.
